IPM Display
Training for the General Public
What is it and what did we do?
A four panel educational sign was developed for permanent display on the principles of IPM in the Florida Botanical Gardens on the principles of IPM. Each panel is 20 inches wide and 20 inches long and is full color imbedded fiberglass for durability. A reduced size portable set of these same four panels was printed, laminated and mounted on a portable display for use at IPM educational presentations. Copies of the UF/IFAS ID Card Deck, Helpful, Harmful, or Harmless??, were purchased to give away at IPM educational presentations when members of the audience answered questions correctly.
What was the outcome?
Five public educational sessions on IPM for the home landscape were held over the past year in various locations throughout Pinellas County. A total of 137 people attended these workshops. Daily visitors to the Florida Botanical Gardens (FBG) averaged about 300. The permanent sign is located in a prominent place just off the FBG main plaza allowing easy access by visitors. It was installed on October 5th, 2005. Since installation, many people have had the opportunity to read the signs. In addition, on November 19th, the annual Garden Fest was held in the Gardens with an estimated attendance of 1000.
