USDA, CSREES National Needs Fellowship -
Plant Medicine/Plant Pest Risk Assessment and Management
University of Florida-IFAS Plant Medicine Program is seeking applicants for a 3-year USDA, CSREES National Needs Fellowship. Program emphasizes plant pest risk assessment and management. Three fellowships are available.
Objectives: The goal of this fellowship project is to increase the number of trained professionals in national and international crop biosecurity through specialized education and training in plant health risk management. Supporting project objectives are to train internationally oriented and technologically advanced plant health professionals and to promote cooperation and information exchange on plant health risk management.
Eligibility: Persons eligible to receive USDA National Need Fellowship support must:
(a) not have completed two semesters or equivalent hours of full-time study at the University of Florida, or not have passed candidacy/qualifying examinations, whichever is later; (b) not have been enrolled previously in the academic program at the same degree level; (c) be citizens or nationals of the United States as determined in accordance with Federal law; and (d) have strong interest in pursuing a degree encompassing plant pest risk assessment and management.
Funding Level and Duration: The fellowship confers an annual stipend of $24,000. It will be administered as a 1/3 time graduate assistantship requiring work (13 hrs/wk) related to IPM Florida.
Prerequisites and Application Process: Applicants must have completed a B.S. or
M.S. in an agricultural science (Agronomy, Entomology, Plant Pathology, etc.) or biological science (Biology, Botany, Environmental Science, etc.), maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher, and achieved a minimum combined GRE score of 1000 (Verbal and Quantitative). Successful applicants will be jointly enrolled in the University of Florida Plant Medicine Program and Certificate Program in Plant Pest Risk Assessment and Management.
